Got a Trade Got it Made:
There is a 1500 – 2000 person skills shortage nationwide in the motor industry. Do you want to work in a high paying, hands on industry earning while you are learning. Would you like to try this next year for Gateway whilst still at school?
Pay Rates are high. According to MITO ( the motor industry training organisation)
- Agricultural vehicle mechanics earn $100 000 plus/yr
- Heavy vehicle mechanics earn $80 – $100 000/yr
- Light vehicle mechanics and Auto Electricians earn $60 – $80 000
It takes 2.5 – 4 years to qualify. Trades people can travel the world working and are in high demand in NZ. You can work your way up to become a specialist, a manager or own your own business.
There is a lot of variety in the work and new technologies mean that employees get on going training. Helpful subjects to study at school are English, Maths, Technology (such as Hard Materials), Computer Skills and Science (such as Physics).
