Employer Speed Meet

Got a Trade SpeedMeets Are On!

The main objective of the Got a Trade SpeedMeets is to facilitate the introduction of school students and job seekers to actual career opportunities in the trades and services. We have gathered some of our top employers who have real job openings for interested and engaged pupils who are ready and willing to discover trades and services as a career pathway.

  • Christchurch – 26th October, Halswell Centre, Christchurch

Our aim is to have schools go through as staggered groups between 10am – 2.30pm.  Details will be confirmed after sign up.

What are SpeedMeets?

They bring the opportunity for students to meet with potential employers speed-dating style with seven minute mini-interviews. All the businesses involved have committed to offer training and apprenticeship pathways to youth.

What do you need to do?

A small amount of preparation from your students is needed to maximise this opportunity;

  • Students should come along with copies of their CV.  It doesn’t have to be longer than a page, but some initial thought is essential. For some, this might be the first time they have written one so there is heaps of great advice here  https://www.careers.govt.nz/tools/cv-builder/build-a-great-cv/
  • To help your students, check out these example job interviews to see who nailed it and failed it to get prepared – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMZGYW1to0k
  •  We will be breaking the students into two streams to meet employers from different sectors, depending on where their interests lie – either trades or services.  Again, you can check out the Got a Trade website for more information, but please tell us the number of students in each stream in the notes section of the sign up form.
  • Sign up!

Have a look at gotatrade.co.nz and explore the huge range of job and career options available, especially any that you might not have thought to look at before. You might be surprised! The comprehensive video and story collection is especially valuable as they feature real young people with real jobs, not actors.

Next Steps

Numbers are strictly limited so it is essential you sign up, although we will try to fit in as many students as we can. If you have any questions at all, just give us a call: Donna Lewis (04) 801 3190. Or, go online to sign up now.  https://gotatrade.co.nz/events

Once you have signed up using the above link then, please text your Name and the words  “Speed Meet” and the Type of Job that you are interested in, to Rachel – Gateway Coordinator TXT 0220 230 321 so as we can organise a group of students from Avonside Girls’ High School to all go together.
